I already knew in 2019 that 2020 is going to be a special year, however not for the reasons we all know now. For us 2020 was a very special but also a strange year. For sure 2020 will always be in our memories.
In December I bought a proposal ring for Andrea, I knew that she is the one, even though we haven’t lived together. I know that that won’t be a problem. We have been spending a lot of time together and that went well as well.
I started planning the proposal in Mexico, together with 2 friends of Andrea, in complete secret of course.
During January news of the Novel Corona Virus in China was being noted. We saw it spreading slowly to more countries. Something to worry about?
In Februari, I went to Mexico, (see this post for more info). At that time flights to China were already banned in order for the Virus to stop spreading. In Mexico City Airport the staff were already wearing mouthmasks.
Our time together was truly amazing, and when she finally said yes, we were over the moon! We had a mini engagement-moon in Querétaro. Soon I had to go home. We thought we would see each other in June maybe, not knowing things would turn out differently back then.
March, April and, May came, countries were being locked down, hospitals flooded with patients, the first wave has started. Countries like the US, Brazil and, even Mexico that didn’t take it seriously got hit very hard.
Being away from each other, especially when traveling is being banned everywhere, is very difficult. We also had a wedding to plan for. Which seemed more difficult to do from a remote location.
During November everything seemed to go back to normal slowly, Corona was still going on like wildfire. So we decided to visit each other. We needed this a lot. Plus we could start planning our wedding finally.
The time we spend together was amazing once more, even though these hard times we found more comfort in each other. During this trip, we were very careful.
However when I got back, somehow I caught Corona as well, I think I got it in Mexico City Airport. But you never really know. Luckily I already had to self-quarantine for 10 days. I didn’t infect anyone else. I got very sick though. I rather have food poisoning than Corona. Trust me.
All in one, this was a year to never forget, 2020 is the year where we got engaged, but also the year the world faces one of its largest challenges in history. The year where many lost their relatives, friends, jobs, and much more. However now there are multiple vaccines, 2021 will be a better year in terms of health. For us, the planning of our wedding has just begun.

Best wishes for 2021.
