In the past I wrote about how hard the Coronavirus has hit the world, even for Long Distance couples this is an incredible challenge. Especially if you were almost ready to travel to him/her and now suddenly you can’t for the next months. I have no other words than to say it is heartbreaking. You are looking forward for a long time that you are finally able to see your partner and then this happens. In this post I will give some advice/pointers on how to survive the Corona crisis together. Even when everything looks dark and grim.
The most important message I am trying to convey is to keep positive, always. It is completely normal to have negative thoughts, but try to think about the future. For now it is impossible to travel to your significant other, however, the Corona Crisis will dwindle down and things will slowly return to normal. So keep looking forward, stay positive and plan for things together in the future.
Also keep talking to each other on a daily basis, the situation in his/her country might be different than yours, but keep him/her up to date of things that are changing and also try to look for positive news. As I am writing this now, the number of Corona cases and deaths seem to be slowing down in Italy and some other countries. Again: Keep positive! How hard this might be in these strange times.
Even though there might be not that much stuff to talk about, it is important to keep saying good morning / good night for sure. If you have nothing to talk about, talk about the future, or look at pictures from the past. Andrea and I use an app called Timehop. This is a great app that lets you connect Instagram/Facebook and other social media apps (Google Photo’s too) and know exactly what you have done 1,2,3 (and so forth) years ago. It is really fun to share those pictures.
Small virtual dates
Also important is to keep the fire going, do things together like Netflixing, try to play games together on Plato and if possible send each other care packages. This will keep the relationship alive for sure. Even better it will give a boost!
Andrea and I recently started playing Animal New Horizons on the Nintendo Switch. Here we can visit each other’s island and be close to each other even though we are far away. This is really incredible for both of us.
You could also set up a virtual dinner, just use Zoom, Microsoft Teams or even Skype and try to cook the same dish. There are plenty of things to as a virtual date so get creative!
