It’s the end of the year and a Disney Remake of an all time classic is of course a must watch right? Or is it? Mary Poppins Returns is an very well remake/sequel of the 1964’s Mary Poppins with an all new cast (And a return of some still living legends). With very nice songs that make sure your feet are tapping along. However it does not archieve the orginal success movie by some margin sadly.
Set in London (after the war). The Banks family now grown up, Micheal Banks are about to lose his house if he cannot find the bank shares his father has left him. Together with his Sister and three children they will do their best to keep their home.
Soon after though, the smallest boy found an old kite, and decided to play with it at the park. Suddenly it was very stormy and the boy almost got lifted up to the sky. And then Mary Poppins appeared out of nowhere!
The Banks Children goes to many adventures with their new nanny, there is even an amazing scene where they are put into an animation. It’s really gorgeous.
The Songs are pretty good, but not as original and fun as the original Mary Poppins. They don’t stick as much in your head as supercalifragilisticoespialidoso. I enjoyed watching the movie very much. However it does get stale sometimes. At the end Dick van Dyke shows his face. It is truly amazing that a 93 year old guy can still dance as good as when he did back then!
Overall a pretty good movie, but unable to step into (the already large) shoes of it’s original. But still pretty enjoyable to watch.
