Andrea and I have been a lot together already in Cancun, we went to Xplor, Xenses and now we even visited Tulum. Tulum is an ancient Mayan city, build aroun the year 1200 (however the earliest enscription is from around 500 AD. There are many tour operators that offer a guided tour, with a pick up from your hotel. Visiting this ancient Mayan site is well worth it.

Located in the south of Riviera Maya, Tulum is a very pretty place. You can clearly notice that you are in the middle of the Jungle. Luckily we had our tour guide helping us find the way. We entered Tulum at one of the side entrances and the stretching field of old royal temples was amazing. The ancient city is located very close to the beach as well.

Tulum (Mayan for wall or trench) actual name might have been Zama, which means city of Dawn. During our time there it was quite busy with a lot of tourist. I think it is still not back on the old level though. We could make some good pictures.

One big mistake we made was to leave the area earlier (you can’t come back). To visit a nearby beach. The beach was beautiful however we wished we stayed longer in Tulum.

One thing we also noticed was that due to tourism, buying stuff is way more expensive than in other places. Sometimes you will pay 3 to 4 times more than usual. So be careful here. Also don’t go on pictures with people holding animals (monkeys, snakes, lizards). By paying those persons money, you are keeping this animal abuse intact.

Other than that, we had a very fun day, I am really glad I saw an ancient Mayan city. Hope you like this blog! Please leave a comment. Thanks!
